The Vision is a powerful synthezoid created by Ultron, who appeared for the first time in #57 of The Avengers series (1968). The character was introduced by Roy Thomas, Stan Lee and John Buscema and immediately stood out for his disarming humanity and deep wisdom, that soon made him a true reference point in the team and a key-figure in the many, epic adventures drawn by John Buscema in the Silver Age. The market does not offer many statues devoted to this charming hero and, to my best knowledge, only one 1:4 piece was available until recently (the Premium Format released by Sideshow on which, however, I do not like the presence of a fabric cloak). Then, I was waiting for some fine, new collectible to enrich my own Avengers' team in 1:4 scale and my wait was finally rewarded by this Vision statue, released by Alpha3 and sculpted by AviAY, which (in my humble opinion) represents one of the best customs realized in recent times. The statue has an edition size of 50 samples only, is equipped with inner LEDs and comes with a rigid card, showing the number of the sample. The powerful android is depicted in a frontal and rather classic fluctuating pose, which emphasizes the sculptural and slender physique of the character. Both the hands are open, the left arm is raised up, as to point an hypothetical opponent, and the legs are fully elongated, with the left foot partially passing through a curved and large beam, embellished with a carved surface; this feature also appears at the right, bottom edge of the long yellow cloak and reminds the incredible power of the hero to change his density, up to achieve the intangibility. The boundaries of the crossing parts are enriched by a thin layer of transparent resin from which the light of the internal LEDs shines through. Note the excellent sculpt of the pectorals, the large dorsal muscles, the bumped triceps and the pronounced lines of demarcation of quadriceps on the long legs, which provide the whole figure with a feeling of strength, a notable elegance and a great visual impact. The colors are very brilliant and faithful to Comics. The suit exhibits an outstanding texture which highligths the metallic tone of the bright green, while the gloves, the boots, the high and rigid patch at waistline and the long cloak are colored with a deep yellow color, enriched by slight orange shades here and there. The same yellow characterizes the typical diamond centered on the chest, while the left hand is made of a transparent, yellow-green resin and is equipped with an inner LED which increases the overall appeal of the figure. The base is simple and quite heavyi; it has a circular planform and depicts a rocky terrain with various, big stones and the ruins of a long beam, where a small, red logo of HYDRA stands out on the background grey color. The face is awesome and really seems inspired by a Buscema's table! The metallic green patch on the head is smooth and ends with a yellow gem which (in the original Comics) absorbs the solar energy and also allows the hero to shoot optic beams at enemies; the same color characterizes the eyes of the synthezoid, thus offering a great chromatic contrast with the intense red of the face. Note the large turn-up of the cloak around the neck, the well shaped covers on ears, the excellent sculpt of nose, mouth and chin and the perfect wrinkles on the hollow cheeks and the furrowed eyebrows, which give the hero a threatening and austere look. This statue is really a top quality collectible and a clear demonstration of the great capabilities of Avi AY, a talented freelancer whose works (often coming from private commissions) are well known and very appreciated among all fans.
